Southport is reaching new heights this Christmas in a season that combines larger than life Nutcracker toy soldiers, a magnificent 60ft LED Christmas tree and a beanstalk!

A band of colourful Nutcracker toy soldiers, each standing 6ft tall, will march into Southport from Friday 20 November and will stand to attention at locations around the town until Thursday 2 January 2020.  Following the festive trail is a free family fun way of taking in some of the Christmas highlights that await discovery around this beautiful seaside town.

In a year of firsts, Southport will also be revealing a new Christmas lighting scheme for 2019 with beautiful star motifs illuminating the skies from Sunday 17 November.  At the centre of this will be a stunning LED Christmas tree that’s magnificent light shows will have visitors in awe.  Having first been commissioned by Southport BID in 2018, the tree has now been replicated by the cities of Milan and Liverpool!

Telling a tale of epic proportions is this year’s pantomime at Southport Theatre where Jack and the Beanstalk opens on Friday 13 December (until Sunday 29 December).  With magic beans, shouts of fee-fi-fo-fum and plenty of boos, hisses and comic capers there will be bucket loads of laughs for all the family. It’s a traditional and spectacular production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol that will unfold at The Atkinson on Saturday 7 December and the ghostly goings-on continue with an eagerly awaited production of a Christmas Gothic on Thursday 12 December.  As well as a Christmas calendar bursting with Christmas shows, arts and craft activities, The Atkinson’s shop offers an array of handmade gifts, artwork and much more.

The Christmas sparkle continues across the town for those seeking a seasonal shopping excursion or a mini-break to get away from it all.  Everything from stocking fillers to completely unique and original gift ideas awaits in a retail experience that combines the big high street names with authentic independent shopping.  Lord Street, with its tree-lined boulevards and wrought iron canopies that are lit by thousands of twinkling fairy lights, and the Victorian splendour of Wayfarers Shopping Arcade and Royal Arcade are part of the unrivalled charm of Southport.  And whether you are looking for a hot chocolate pick-me-up, a light lunch or a fine dining experience you’ll be spoilt for choice.
