It’s Panto Time at Southport Theatre…..Oh yes it is!

Beauty and the Beast kicks off its 2018 Christmas run this Friday 14 December at Southport Theatre.

The long-waited pantomime is set to be one of the most successful in Southport Theatre’s history and the first pantomime to take place in the venue since the new management team Bliss Investment Company Ltd took over in June 2018.

This year’s show is directed by and starring Sam Kane, back for the second year. Sam, who previously appeared in Brookside and Emmerdale, played Buttons in last year’s highly acclaimed Cinderella. This year he is taking on the role of Eugene in one of the most popular fairy tales of them all. He will be joined by Jason Marc-Williams as Dame and Alastair Barron as comic.

Toni Howard returns as Belle, having played Cinderella in last year’s smash hit show. “Beauty is going to be a fantastic role as she is clever, kind and strong willed. I love the way she stands up to the Beast and the way that their relationship develops.”

You can meet Belle at the specially themed festive Beauty and the Beast Afternoon Tea’s taking place on 24, 26, 27 December from 3.30 to 5pm, £15 per person or £50 for a group of four. To book call: 033 33 44 5000 or visit:

Joshua Ford is new to pantomime in Southport and he is already threatening to sneak his costume in to his bag at the end of the run. “I just love the purple coat that I get to wear as Prince – the whole costume is great. I haven’t seen the Beast costume yet so really looking forward to finding out what that is like.

David Gilbrook has been busy touring the UK this year and is looking forward to spending a few weeks by the seaside.  “I played the role of Beauty’s father in Beauty and the Beast in Newark last year and so I am delighted to be asked to reprise it in Southport this Christmas. I just love the show as it has romance, adventure, great musical numbers as well as lots of traditional panto humour – it really is a beauty of a show!”

Emma Lloyd, Creative Director said:

“We are all on countdown now. There is a real buzz in the venue and we get ready to welcome over 15000 people in the next few weeks. It’s the teams favourite time of year and it ends an exciting period of change for the venue.

Over the next few months you will see new artists and companies performing at the venue. We are working hard to develop the programme here to attract new audiences and to add to the cultural tourism offer for the Liverpool City Region.”

So… get your sweets and drinks, pick up your flashing merchandise from the kiosk and prepare for 2 hours of pure panto magic!
