A Beauty of a Panto for Southport Theatre This Christmas

With summer drawing to a close and the kids back at school Southport Theatre’s sights are firmly focused on their magical family pantomime Beauty and the Beast.

The show stars Sam Kane as Eugene, Jason Marc-Williams as Dame Kimmy Shoo, Alistair Barron as Simon, Toni Howard as Beauty, Joshua Ford as Prince / Beast and David Gilbrook as Cedric, Beauty’s father. Recently a number of the cast were getting in to the panto spirit at the photo shoot.

Jason says “Having worked with Sam, Alistair and Toni last year it was great to be reunited with them again at the shoot. We had each other in stitches within minutes and I now cannot wait for rehearsals to begin.”

Alistair adds “I am delighted to be back in Southport again this year. I loved playing Ugly last year but I am quite relieved in a way to be playing comic again as there aren’t so many costume changes!”

Playing the role of Eugene, which is similar to Gaston in the Disney version, ticks a massive box for Sam. “I think it is one of the best roles in theatre and I am delighted to finally be playing the part. Eugene is both a villain and a comic so is a great challenge and a lot of fun.”

Toni Howard is thrilled to be returning, having played Cinderella in last year’s smash hit show. “Beauty is going to be a fantastic role as she is clever, kind and strong willed. I love the way she stands up to the Beast and the way that their relationship develops.”

This is Joshua Ford’s first pantomime in Southport and he is already threatening to sneak his costume in to his bag at the end of the run. “I just love the purple coat that I get to wear as Prince – the whole costume is great. I haven’t seen the Beast costume yet so really looking forward to finding out what that is like.”

David Gilbrook has been busy touring the UK this year and is looking forward to spending a few weeks by the seaside.  “I played the role of Beauty’s father in Beauty and the Beast in Newark last year and so I am delighted to be asked to reprise it in Southport this Christmas. I just love the show as it has romance, adventure, great musical numbers as well as lots of traditional panto humour – it really is a beauty of a show!”

Beauty and the Beast runs from Friday 14 – Sunday 30 December 2018.
